As I mentioned Sunday, I left the decorating and the organizing for this holiday until the last minute. I had the candy and JS's costume, but I didn't put up any decorations around the house nor did I look for any pumpkins until Halloween Eve. To my horror (pun intended), when I finally searched for the Great Pumpkin (or any pumpkin, for that matter), I found that all the stores in town had no more pumpkins to sell. JS and I found a gourd to paint, and he said that was fun for him to do, but I knew he really wanted to help me carve a pumpkin.
I know he probably would have been fine without a jack-o-lantern out on our front steps, but I felt terrible. And so I posted a status on my Facebook page, trying to make light of the situation by calling it another bad mom moment. And then, my friends stepped up.
Shortly after I posted that status update Sunday, one of my friends commented that she had an extra pumpkin that I could have. Yesterday, another friend called me saying she had just seen my status and has a pumpkin I could have if I wanted it. No, Halloween isn't my favorite time of year, but it is one of my son's favorites. And with the help of friends, it was another fun one for JS.
We had gourd paining.
We had not one, ...
... but two black cats.
There were pumpkin guts...
...and a smiley jack-o-lantern.
And a very happy Robin Hood.
Happy Thank-O-Ween!

Yay for wonderful friends! :)
I was too distracted yesterday and the kids didn't seem to mind that there was no pumpkin (or maybe they were just being overly kind)...maybe next year.
Looky there, it posted!
what an adorable robin hood he was! and you make a pretty authentic witch yourself....i mean that in the nicest way possible ;o)
jealous of the two black cat decorations.
