The Positives Of Having To Get Four Fillings

Last week Monday was supposed to be like any other Monday that included a visit to the dentist: Go to appointment, make some small talk, have dental hygienist clean your teeth, have dentist stop by to take a quick look and say your good-byes. But the annual check-up ended up surprising both myself and the dentist: Four cavities sneaked up on us between dental visits. (As I said on my Facebook page, when I do something I like to give it my all. ;-D)

Fast forward to today, the day those cavities had to get the boot ... er ... fillings. I get nervous enough when I have to get my teeth cleaned, so I was determined to calm myself by thinking on the positive side of having to get fillings. I started by posting on Facebook, "Looking forward to spending two hours in the dentist's chair to get four fillings. It'll be the only time today that I'll get to relax. Happy Crazyday!" While sitting in the dentist's chair (it was only 1 1/2 hours, by the way) I thought of some more positives:

-- You're motivated to make all your calls early in the day because you won't be able to talk normally until after the Novocaine wears off.

-- If you forget to make a call before your appointment, that's OK. You get to practice talking out of one side of your mouth. That comes in handy when you have to discipline your child in public but don't want to make a scene.

-- While in the dentist's chair, you can pretend you're an astronaut getting ready for lift-off as they tilt your chair way back.

-- You also get to rock out to the music of The Commodores, Olivia Newton-John and Burt Bacharach.

-- You get to enjoy a liquid diet the rest of the day, which will in turn help to flush out all the salt and carbs you indulged in the day before.

-- People will think you have a sexy crooked smile like actress Ellen Barkin ... if they ignore your drool, of course. ;-D

Did I forget any other positives?

Oh yes! Blog post idea.

Hmmm - I wouldn't be nearly so positive about this!

I laughed so hard I spit the watered down listerine right out of my mouth!

;-D

I'm glad you are able to see the positive side - remind me of that when I go in before Thanksgiving to get a new crown for my front tooth!

Glad you survived the torture chambers. I need to go next month for my cleaning, but I know the subject of a crown is sitting there waiting to be addressed.

Thinking I might try to be positive and share my experience from today on my blog. Slightly brain dead today, but I'll see how it goes :D

You are braver than I am. I haven't been to the Dentist in 3 years! Glad you got to rock out and drool!
