Sure, sure, I put on clothes every day (usually my at-home mommy uniform of shorts or dirty jeans with a t-shirt). But today was different. I resisted the urge to go what I call "mommy grunge" when dropping JS off at school, and took the time to put myself together: lightweight sweater, clean denim jeans, infinity scarf, new tall boots, cape-style lightweight coat and all. I knew I was just going to come back home, change in to my uniform and clean the bathrooms, but for those ten minutes that I wore that outfit this morning I felt really good about myself.
No, I'm not saying I have self-esteem issues and don't feel good about myself when I'm in my grubbies. But being dressed up (even if it was just for a short car ride) was kinda fun. And that got me thinking ... why don't I do that everyday, even if it's just to get groceries or run some other errands? Why do I save "dressing up" (or at least looking somewhat put together) for just church and special occasions? Isn't everyday special?
So I guess I'm issuing myself a challenge: Stop saving my nice stuff for special occasions, and start getting dressed up even if there's no place to go. In case you're wondering, you won't be seeing JM in an evening gown and jewels during the day. Well, not yet anyway. ;-D
How about you? Do you get dressed up even if you have no place to go?

This is the wrong day to ask me, because I had to teach two PE classes this morning. So while I'd like to dress up while I go out, I'm kind of stuck wearing shorts, a tshirt and sneakers. But I tend to save my nicer stuff for going out. I've found that when I wear it and forget to change when I get home, I usually slop something on the nice stuff! LOL Yeah, I'm as bad as my kids! :D
I think this is a great challenge - maybe I'll have to dress up to head down the driveway to get my mail!
oh how funny. we should have had lunch!
i got up and did the same. even loaded elli and the van up for a day to SF. back out of the garage, and felt a sudden urge to NOT go anywhere. came back in, looked around at the work i had to do and put on sweats, tank & slippers.
but for those 30 minutes or so, i looked DANG good :o)
As I sit here responding, I'm in pink pj pants with the saying "hello, I'm high maintenance" on them, and an old grungy Sting T-shirt. Would I go out with this on? To water flowers or get the mail yes. This is one of my mommy uniforms. I still can't bring myself to doll up to go get groceries. My dry cleaning bill would be huge and I'd have to buy make up to much! LOL
That's one fun thing about working.....it gives me the excuse to dress up! But most days I change before Don gets home into my "grubbies". When I dont it is a nice surprise for him as he doesnt like me rockin my sweats all the time.
It's kinda like your good china, dont save it just for special occasions. Maybe we should plan more things we can dress up for....like wine tasting nights at Nicky's or something.
I am sure you looked lovely. Wish we had a photo of that! And I knowww the kitties were very complementary.
I like those cape-style coats!!
I'm happy in my cut-off jeans, flip flops and tees, but as the weather changes I'll probably consider becoming more presentable. I go everywhere without much care of my appearance. That way, when I do dress up, people are completely astounded!!! heh heh heh
The only time I bum is when I clean. I get dressed up every single day, at least decent clothes, make up and hair done. I've always been this way and the only time you see me in a tee shirt is for bed...or the rare times I'm at a baseball game.
Fess up, you just wanted to sport your new stuff from your shopping spree ;-)
