On The Tenth Day Of Christmas...

... I fell in love with my hubby all over again.

And it was all because of this Christmas ornament that I just happened to find yesterday.

My hubby is a huge fan of Star Trek, especially the original series and The Next Generation. When I met him in college, I had absolutely no interest in Star Trek. I had seen a few episodes when I was in grade school, but I never really thought of the show as groundbreaking. I just thought it was full of bad acting. ;-D

But then The Next Generation went on the air, and I reluctantly watched every episode with the person who would be my future hubby. You know what? The storylines were engaging, the special effects were fun and the acting was spectacular (OK, maybe not the first few episodes, but soon after).

It always made me happy to see how happy JD was as we watched the shows together. And then something unexpected happened: I became hooked. I started seeing those episodes through the eyes of my then-boyfriend, and got just as excited about them as he was. I started noticing how groundbreaking the original series really was (once I got over the campy factor). I started reading JD's Star Trek compendium that details all the episodes that ever aired. And then, I boldly went where I thought no one had gone before: I wrote a paper analyzing the classic Stark Trek episdoe, "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield," for a media studies class I was taking. (Yes, I got an "A" on it. The professor must also have been a Trekkie.)

Seeing that little ornament of Captain James T. Kirk in the store brought back all of those memories, and I knew I had to have it. No, it doesn't go with the Santa, music, bird and other ornaments I have. But Star Trek is part of our lives together, so the ornament belongs in this house.

Besides, it was discounted from $15, to $3. ;-D

But in the back of my mind I kept thinking, "does this mean she's going to have a Star Trek tree next Christmas?" ;-D
